Adult stem cells triumph over Motor Neurone Disease

A young man from Wales is one of the latest to have been reported upon after stem cell therapy for Motor Neuron Disease. At only 21 years of age he was one of the youngest recoreded to have been stricken with this devastating disease.
Umbilical cord blood-derived cells were used in a well tested protocol used in more than one country now. Instead of dying, the patient after more than a year later has found his muscle strength returning. He has experienced none of the expected deterioration and while needing help to walk, no longer needs a wheelchair.
Amazing stuff - a victory for the young man and for adult stem cells. yet the skeptics abound and the media persist in calling adult stem cells just stem cells - thus confusing the public into thinking that all stem cells are the same. This is thanks to the power of the embryonic stem cell lobby who lag so far behind that one wonders realistically if embryonic stem cells will ever get beyond the lab. I doubt it - meanwhile thousands of patients are being helped today by adult stem cells. Thank God for the miracle of 21st Century Regenerative medicine - and for the visionary scientists who have already made the protocols safe and effective for around 75% of sufferers of a wide range of diseases.
